The American foxhound dogs are scent hounds and sweet tempered, in this case they are tolerant of strangers thus don't make good guard dogs but they do well with children. They are intelligent, kind, loyal and loving, but they sometimes tend to be stubborn and independent so shouldn't be left alone with other dogs, cats and children unless when trained in their early stages.
